This Wednesday, Virginia just became the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment! Having moved here recently, I was not aware that Virginia was among the states that hadn't passed it. With the 100th anniversary of Women's Suffrage and the 4th Annual Women's March this weekend, we are certainly kicking the year off celebrating women's accomplishments. In that spirit, I began thinking of influential women in the political sphere. I decided I had to make a Nancy Pelosi doll in her signature red coat and sunglasses. I first saw one online that apparently is in the Twitter feed. I’m not on Twitter, but I did want to thank @BararaSlate (and her cousin Barbara Masters, @masterspolicy who posted the picture) for the inspiration. I didn’t get mine done in time for the Christmas tree, but it will SURELY go up next year. She does fit nicely with my Valentine decorations, so I'll keep her around for awhile. I've placed her in a photo of some early Suffragettes to honor 100+ years of women standing up for their rights. Stay tuned for my next post where I will show you our collection of Victorian "Votes for Women" dolls!
We'd love to hear from you.
